Supply Chain Thinking:
Race to the Top: An Outlook for 2023

Geoff Stedman, Chief Marketing Officer
As we near the end of 2022, it’s a good time to look back at some big themes from the past year and think about how they will impact the media business in 2023. 2022 was certainly a transformative year in the media business. We saw ongoing industry consolidation and heightened M&A activity, highlighted by the combination of Discovery and WarnerMedia. This consolidation continues against the backdrop of concerns about media company profitability and the cost-cutting we are now seeing as these firms seek to bolster their bottom lines.

This past year also brought the “streaming wars” to a new phase, with media companies building direct-to-consumer services and consumers increasingly dropping their traditional pay-TV services. This move to streaming represents a profound shift in the way that content is delivered to consumers, and the deals haven’t been limited to VOD. Top-tier live sports got into the game in 2022, as well. High-profile examples include Thursday Night Football moving to Amazon Prime and Major League Soccer signing a 10-year deal with Apple. Even linear TV is moving to streaming, as witnessed by the dramatic growth in FAST channels now available online.
Another significant shift in consumer consumption — the surge in global demand for content, no matter where it’s produced — also proved to be meaningful for the media business in 2022. Consumers worldwide have an insatiable appetite for good content, and media companies have been racing to fill that demand with culturally relevant content that has been localized for each destination market. Looking to improve their profitability, media organizations have stepped up to monetize content across a broader array of geographic regions and markets while creating new audiences.
From Our Technical Solutions Team:
Are You Fully Utilizing Automation for More Efficiency and Scalability?

Brian Pelletier, VP of Technical Solutions, Americas
By automating more processes and workflows in a Rally supply chain, operators can move a higher volume of content through the supply chain without worrying about whether the infrastructure can keep up. The outcome: a more efficient – and scalable – media supply chain.
A fully automated system still needs the right tools for engineers and support staff to monitor the systems, both for confidence when things go right and to troubleshoot when things go wrong. The Rally Core and Gateways provide different views and widgets to help address those monitoring needs.
While dashboards such as the Job-Flow, Asset, and Jobs dashboards provide confidence monitoring, new enhancements to the Job page and Job List widget help operators quickly find the jobs they are looking for, locate and fix errors, and keep supply chains moving. Both the Job page and the Job list widget can be configured to show the exact job operators need by allowing them to select the columns displayed and their order. Date filters have been moved to the top of the page allowing for quick navigation through time, while the filter panel helps users find jobs and save common searches. Users can, for example, easily find all the jobs that errored in the last 7 days, or any other relevant filter parameters.

These capabilities help users monitor jobs more efficiently, increasing the speed with which they can search for, find, and fix problems to keep the automated supply chain on track – a great way to ensure your supply chain is running as efficiently as possible and can scale to your need.

New in Rally:
We’ve recently added new viewing and configuration options to Rally, making it easier to find the information needed to monitor supply chains or resolve issues. Here are a couple of new items:
Asset Table Widget
Sometimes users want to browse Assets in a very dense view, showing asset info, metadata, and asset status in a table instead of a list. Rally Gateway now offers a widget to address these use cases. The Asset Table widget allows for complete configuration of the table columns and their data. That data includes all direct attributes of an Asset like creation date or deadline as well as any metadata field and any asset status group. Search and filters are fully supported and can be configured in exactly the same way as they are with the Asset Picker widget.
Gateway administrators can use this new widget to build compact and dense status overviews, allowing operators to check and verify assets and their status within the facility.
Resource Viewer
Also new in Rally is the Resource Viewer. The Resource Viewer allows operators to check preset configurations and rule settings without leaving their current Rally environment. It also introduces the ability to investigate presets and rules for Gateway users, so now operators in Gateway can find a job, check the preset for potential errors, and escalate their finding if necessary to an engineer who can fix the preset in Rally Core. Inside Rally Core, the preset can be interrogated without leaving the jobs page, while a quick link feature is still available which allows users to jump directly to the preset and make necessary changes.
You can read about more recent updates to the Rally platform in our latest Rally Update blog post.
