Early this month SDVI announced a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) with AWS to revolutionize media operations in the cloud. The goal?? Deliver new solutions that simplify deployment and operations, making media operations more agile and efficient for companies of all sizes.
As part of the collaboration, SDVI will leverage AWS services to automate and accelerate the exchange of content through the AWS cloud, making it easier and faster for media companies to move content between suppliers and distributors.
Matt Westrup, chief technology officer for Hearst Networks EMEA commented: “Having already embraced the AWS cloud for much of our storage and media processing along with the SDVI Rally management platform, we are excited about what innovation and improvements this will bring to what we have already achieved together.”
Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the annual NAB Show in Las Vegas. Few people would use the word “pleasure” to describe being at a large trade show, with the long days, trendy buzzwords, repetitive meetings, and overpriced food. Yes, NAB has all that, but it also has something lacking at most other industry trade shows: a vibrant community of people who genuinely enjoy being together and learning from one other.
Particularly at trade shows, but also in the times in between, you can feel the distinct sense of community across the media technology sector. It’s unlike any other industry. Bigger than vendors and customers, this community is about end users helping each other, tech suppliers working together, and even competitors sharing lessons learned.
The trust built across our community stems from the very nature of the work we do and support. Media workflows are often complex and time-sensitive, with difficult technical challenges, and their success or failure can be highly visible. Because there is little room for uncertainty or failure, vendor accountability is essential. Dependable partnerships are a must.

The SDVI Rally platform is known for its efficient, automated media processing, leveraging a wide array of third-party tools. By combining metadata, business logic, and preset tooling, processing tasks can be accomplished swiftly while capturing all necessary status and cost data.
But what about the tasks that still require a human touch? These areas of the supply chain demand nuances that automated processing alone cannot achieve, such as high-accuracy translation, localization, and versioning. Many media operations use an outside service provider to do this type of work, which can create additional work reconciling status and cost, not to mention extra time spent verifying that the resulting files match the source content.
With the integration of Rally and EIKON-iQ, the handoff between the automated supply chain and the complete suite of EIKON services is now accessible from Rally. A work order-based job submission system provides detailed phase updates from EIKON-iQ to Rally while the job is active. Additionally, the integration offers detailed information on the files generated during processing and the costs associated with the servicing, all in real-time. Rally also provides filtering of work orders by phase, as well as configuration options for phase display, giving operators a clearer view of active EIKON-iQ tasks.

Rally Wins Awards for SDVI, Customers, Partners at NAB
Normally we use this space to talk about the latest features and capabilities in Rally. But this month we’d like to give a shout out to the product that took home three major awards at this year’s NAB Awards: two wins for NAB Show Project of the Year and another for NAB Show Product of the Year.
The awards were announced April 8th in Las Vegas. This first-of-its-kind Project of the Year Award program recognized excellence across the broadcasting and entertainment industry, honoring cutting-edge applications, installations, workflows, and use cases that push boundaries and redefine possibilities. EIKON-iQ Services
The complete EIKON media services portfolio is now available from within a Rally managed supply chain thanks to the new EIKON-iQ intelligent integration gateway. This integration enables Rally users to place orders for EIKON services and, as those jobs are serviced by EIKON Group, maintain visibility into job statuses and costs.
EIKON’s comprehensive range of services includes:
- Scripting
- Mixing
- Localization
- Mastering & QC
- Distribution & Archive
With this integration, supply chains running in Rally can create work orders for EIKON jobs, then send those work orders to EIKON-iQ for routing to the appropriate EIKON service or system. As a job is handled, EIKON-iQ communicates status updates back to Rally to keep supply chain operators informed of any phase changes. Once EIKON finishes the job, EIKON-iQ sends a completion message back to Rally along with a link to the new resource requested in the original work order. Rally accesses the new files and proceeds with the next steps in the supply chain, logging metadata information on duration and costs from EIKON.
