Noise is the seen and sometimes unseen component that can sink a good upres, blow out a SDR – HDR up-conversion, or can create compression blocking at low bit rates that even sledgehammer MPEG noise reduction algorithms in displays can’t remove.

Dark Energy is the force that allows HD content to look nearly indistinguishable from UHD content, and that allows SD material to be placed into UHD streams without fear of stair-stepping or jaggies.

While studios and directors may love the way their grain looks at uncompressed bit rates, when moderately heavy grain patterns are crunched down by encoding compression engines, the result is compression blocking that is unwanted. Dark Energy can reduce grain patterns to manageable levels pre-compression, while maintaining the original, artistic intent when the file has completed low bit rate versioning.

In addition to grain, Dark Energy removes chroma and pattern noise that is very common in 80’s, 90’s, and 00 era content.
