Supply Chain Thinking:
How Media Supply Chain Flexibility Drives Competitive Differentiation
Geoff Stedman, Chief Marketing Officer
The core of competitive differentiation for a media company is, first and foremost, content itself. Content that people want to watch is a valuable commodity. Nearly as important and valuable to a media company is enabling the best possible consumer experience around that content.
So, to extract the utmost value out of their content, media companies seek not only to make it flawless but also to make it available in all the right places, easy to discover and consume — thanks in part to high-quality metadata — on a wide variety of platforms and devices, and sometimes even easy to share. The modern media supply chain empowers organizations to manage and optimize all of these processes.
In this month’s blog, we look at some real-world examples of how media companies use the SDVI Rally platform to manage all the tools and tasks required to create exceptional content and deliver exceptional consumer experiences at global scale. Whether putting together a new FAST channel, inking a licensing deal for a new service, or pivoting to meet new market demands, the platform must be able to accommodate nuance and complexity and enable agility.
As one Rally user has explained it, “Managing for volatility in the media business is so important today. That’s really what it’s all about — how you can get to market faster, get to market more efficiently with a high-quality product.”

A Look At What You Can Do With AI to Speed Up QC
Henry Mederos, Solutions Architect
When you’re working on tight deadlines, are short-staffed, or have long-form media content, QC jobs can be a time-sink. At SDVI, we pride ourselves on empowering Rally users with the best technology on the market to make media workflows more efficient. We offer a variety of tools to analyze content, be it images, videos, or captions. Here we illustrate an excellent example of how Amazon Rekognition was used to enhance an Accurate.Video Validate work order.
Below you see examples of Transcribe as well as Text and Celebrity detection from Rekognition. SDVI also uses these tools to support Label, Shot, Segment, and Moderation detection too.
Check out Transcribe – here you can easily find what the actors said.

New in Rally
Smarter Decision-making in the Rally Decision Engine
In the last quarter, the Decision Engine for the Rally media supply chain management platform has been the subject of a few updates. These updates allow for more sophisticated reporting and scheduling capabilities.
Additional Data in the Job Usage Report
Decision Engine has been updated with the ability to include job_metadata when submitting a job. Because this data can be included in job usage reports, users can create sophisticated reports including information such as:
- file names
- QC operators completing work orders
- editors finishing compliance edits
- channels, regions
- departments, and more
Jobs Waiting for Files to Exist
Decision Engine now has the ability to submit a job that will not run until some specified inventory items of an Asset exist. The supply chain can wait up to 10 days for a future file to arrive. This new capability allows supply chain engineers to schedule deliveries while still waiting on a subtitle file or audio dub to arrive.
