An Ecosystem in Motion: Building a Media Supply Chain Ready for Whatever Comes Next

A tool that didn’t exist four years ago can be essential to your media operations today, and a tool adopted six months ago is likely a meaningfully different product than when it was first turned on. As media tech evolves faster by the day, organizations need more than the right tool for the job — they need supply chains built to adopt the next one quickly, with minimal risk and disruption.
From the beginning, Rally Application Services were intended to give organizations freedom: instead of committing to a costly, standalone integration project, teams can try a new tool inside a live workflow and see how it performs as part of the larger content flow. Automated ad-break detection, an application category that did not exist four years ago, is one example of a tool that has moved from novelty to operational advantage inside a Rally supply chain. AI Scene Analysis for Virtual Product Placement

Virtual product placement turns finished content into new ad inventory, but before a brand can be placed in a scene, someone has to find the eligible moments, and reviewing an entire library by eye does not scale. A European broadcaster preparing for virtual product placement asked what AI could do here, so the Solutions team and our partners at netorium built a proof of concept that analyzes scenes in advance and hands the team a validated list of placement-ready spots.
To solve it, the team built a Rally-orchestrated workflow: AWS Rekognition scans for object classes the team selects — a kitchen counter, a bar, the side of a building — and Rally routes the results to a human reviewer for a final check on which spots are actually worth selling. Approved results export as a ready-to-use shot list, handing partners and editors a curated starting point instead of raw footage.
The detection model is just one swappable service inside a Rally supply chain that already handles ingest, proxy creation, work orders, and delivery, meaning the same pattern extends to other scene intelligence use cases as new models emerge. For any organization sitting on a deep library, the message is that the hard part of preparing for virtual product placement is already solvable with the supply chain you have.

Less Digging, More Doing
Two recent updates in Rally make it easier for operators to manage their day-to-day work order queue, and a third streamlines how delivery issues get investigated in Rally Connect.
Work Order Priority Support
Rally users can now set priorities on work orders, with priority displayed in both list and table views — helping operators quickly identify which work needs their immediate attention.
Custom Tabs in the Work Order Widget
Rally now supports custom tabs in the Work Order widget, with each tab based on a predefined query, so different types of work orders can be presented within a single Gateway page — making it easier for operators to locate the work relevant to their role.
Rally Connect: Redesigned Delivery Detail View
The Delivery Detail view in Rally Connect has been redesigned so license windows, program information, and client data fields are visually grouped and aligned for faster scanning. The view also now displays the Connect version that was active when a delivery was processed, making it easier to correlate delivery issues with a specific release or to validate behavior during regression testing.

Operators can now step back through supply chain execution during a live run — a powerful new tool for failure analysis and root cause investigation.

Agentic AI Interface
A new MCP (Model Context Protocol) server lets external AI systems query Rally, trigger supply chain execution, and — because Rally supply chains are human-readable — even author supply chain definitions directly.
